The 'Barrier-Free' Initiative in Odesa Schools

As part of the nationwide initiative «Barrier-Free», supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Office of the First Lady, schools in Odesa are conducting lessons that promote barrier-free awareness.

Specifically, lessons aimed at instilling a culture of respect and mutual assistance among children have been held in educational institutions of the Peresyp district.

During the classes, students discussed the concept of barrier-free environments, learned to understand the needs of people with disabilities, elderly individuals, parents with young children, and other social groups. The children engaged in interactive tasks, watched videos, participated in discussions, and took part in role-playing games.

Teachers placed special emphasis on developing empathy and practical inclusive behavior skills, teaching how to offer help appropriately, avoid stereotypes, and how everyone can make their environment more friendly and accessible.

First-grade students received a notebook titled «Life Without Barriers».

Such activities help foster a generation of youth that embraces diversity, values human dignity, and creates an atmosphere of respect and support. Students learn to notice and assist one another, which will help them build a society of equal opportunities in the future.
