Strengthening Ties: Odessa and Bristol Collaboration

Odessa's Mayor Gennady Trukhanov held an online meeting with Tony Dyer, the head of the Bristol City Council in the United Kingdom.

During the dialogue, the parties explored potential avenues for cooperation, particularly in cinema and UNESCO-related initiatives.

Bristol boasts a thriving arts scene and cinema and has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities network since 2017, earning the title of «City of Film».

«When we discuss international relations, I believe they rely on horizontal relationships between municipalities – which are more practical and effective. Your expertise in community problem-solving, UNESCO site management, and architectural heritage preservation is crucial for us. We aim to learn from the experiences of cities in Europe and the UK, renowned for their traditions and historical conservation. Your rich cultural heritage and commitment to architecture, museums, and archives exemplify how modernity and respect for the past can coexist harmoniously. We aspire to adopt such approaches to preserve our identity while moving forward,» the Mayor of Odessa emphasized.

Representatives from Bristol are planning a visit to Odessa soon to strengthen partnership ties and gain a deeper understanding of the city, its culture, history, infrastructure, and business.

Bristol was named the best city to live in the UK in 2014 and 2017 and received the «European Green Capital» award in 2015.
