Promoting Road Safety and Tolerance Among Youth
In the Odesa region, events were held to mark the National Road Safety Week and International Day of Tolerance.
Police officers, along with educational safety inspectors, visited schools where they discussed with students the importance of road safety, combating bullying, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Law enforcement stressed to students the critical need to adhere to traffic rules. Officers demonstrated to younger students how to cross the road safely, pointing out what to watch for to avoid dangers. The children also drew traffic lights and road signs, which helped them better remember the rules. By wearing reflective vests, officers showed how to make children more visible on the road.
During the meetings dedicated to the International Day of Tolerance, celebrated annually on November 16, police conducted interactive sessions for students, emphasizing respect for others, acceptance of individual differences, and building friendly relationships within the group. Inspectors explained that tolerance is not just politeness but also daily actions that help create a safe and welcoming atmosphere in schools.
The topic of bullying was also discussed, including its various forms and the dangers of indifference to aggressive behavior. Police highlighted that supporting classmates and being willing to listen are foundational to a safe and friendly environment. Students were reminded that in cases of bullying, they should immediately inform adults.
At the end of the meetings, children received sweet treats as well as reflective smiley faces and keychains for their backpacks, which will help them be more visible on the road and serve as a pleasant reminder of the knowledge and skills they acquired.
