Hope Shines: Supporting Children with Diabetes in Odesa
On November 14, 2025, an event was held in Odesa to mark World Diabetes Day, aimed at supporting children with diabetes and their families.
The event was organized with the assistance of the Department of Health of the Odesa City Council, the Association of Family Medicine of the Odesa Region, the Children’s Consultative and Diagnostic Center named after acad. B.Ya. Reznik, along with various charitable foundations and public organizations.
In our city, a municipal information project titled “Odesa Changes Attitude Towards Diabetes” has been in place for several years. Its goal is to inform the public about diabetes, its complications, the importance of timely diagnosis and prevention, and to provide extensive educational campaigns and psychological support for patients and their families.
“This year, we are focusing on living in balance with diabetes. The symbol of World Diabetes Day is the blue circle, representing life, health, and unity in the fight against the disease. Thus, children, their parents, and medical professionals joined a flash mob, trying to balance blue balloons. This reflects the importance of constant vigilance and management of diabetes,” said the event organizer, Valentyna Velychko, director of the Reznik Center.
During the event, pediatric endocrinologists from Odesa medical institutions received thanks and appreciation from parents, while young participants received gifts. Interesting psychological activities and games were also organized for the children by specialists from the public organization “Psychological Space of CDC”.
In the hall, everyone had the opportunity to undergo free cardiometabolic health screening using modern medical equipment, including measuring glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin, cholesterol, uric acid, and other anthropometric indicators.
