Supporting Veterans: New Insights for Future Psychologists
On November 14, an important event took place in Odesa for the master's students of Odesa National University named after I. Mechnikov and Odesa State University of Internal Affairs. The students received practical advice on providing psychological support to veterans and effective rehabilitation.
The event was organized as part of the initiative “Profession with Heart: A School for Developing Future Psychologists,” which aims to enhance practical skills, emotional resilience, empathy, moral sensitivity, and professional identity among young psychologists capable of responding effectively in crisis situations.
War veteran Mykhailo Musayev, who currently serves as a leading consultant on veteran policy, shared his experiences and contemporary approaches to supporting veterans with students undergoing internships in the Psychological Support Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Region.
He talked about his service experience, the emotional challenges faced by military personnel, and methods of adaptation after returning from the front lines. The future specialists actively asked questions about overcoming stress, maintaining psychological resilience during service, working with traumatic experiences, and building resilience in veterans.
This event marked a significant step towards creating a barrier-free environment, as it provided students the opportunity to engage directly with a veteran, discuss relevant issues, and gain a deeper understanding of the needs of those who have sacrificed their years and health for their homeland. Such experiences will serve as a valuable foundation for their future professional activities.
