Advocating for Elderly Rights in Ukraine

A round table titled «Unity for a Dignified Old Age» took place in Odesa.

The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the elderly and to unite efforts between the government and the community to find effective solutions that ensure dignified living for the older generation.

This initiative was organized by the Charitable Foundation «Caritas Odesa UGCC» in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council.

Participants included the advisor to the Odessa mayor on social issues, Veronika Etnarovich, representatives of community social service centers, and various NGOs focusing on elderly support.

Olena Kytainska, director of the Department, emphasized that current social policy aims to expand the rights of the elderly, integrating them into community life and improving quality of life at any age.

The round table participants discussed a range of important topics:

  • support for elderly individuals in Odesa;
  • results of a survey identifying key needs of the elderly;
  • challenges faced by the elderly during wartime;
  • issues concerning internally displaced persons needing home care services and facing housing difficulties;
  • dignified care for elderly individuals.

This event served as a significant platform for exchanging thoughts and experiences among all stakeholders.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants discussed new opportunities for enhancing collaboration in social services.
