Celebrating Courage: Defender's Day
On October 1st, Ukraine celebrates Defender's Day.
This day honors the modern warriors who carry on the proud traditions of Ukrainian military forces. We remember all those who protect our land and sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's freedom.
In Odesa, a flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the Fighters for Independence was held to honor the memory of the fallen.
Local authorities, military personnel, veterans, clergy, and residents participated in the event.

Defender's Day was established in 2014 to honor the heroism and military traditions of our people. It is celebrated on the feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, a symbol of defense. Today's defenders of Ukraine continue the Cossack traditions and strengthen our nation amidst war. Their bravery and selflessness have become a symbol of trust among Ukrainians. The Ukrainian army has become one of the most capable in the world, and our support is every citizen's duty to bring victory closer.
