Young Women Arrested for Arson of a Vehicle in Odessa

Two young women were apprehended after setting a vehicle on fire and planning to ignite another one. They face potential imprisonment for their actions.

This was reported by the police.

During the curfew, on one of the streets of Odessa, the girls ignited a «Kia» belonging to a local woman. The fire was extinguished by firefighters, and the incident was reported to the police.

With the analytical support of the criminal analysis department, the regional police's investigative unit, along with operatives and detectives, discovered that two Odessa residents, aged 17 and 18, were involved in the crime.

One of the girls, while seeking easy money, was recruited through a messaging app to commit arson on military and police vehicles for a monetary reward. She also involved her 18-year-old friend in the scheme.

The girls identified a car that met the requirements set by their so-called curator, marked it with a white cross, doused it with a flammable liquid, and set it on fire. The whole process was recorded on a phone as proof of their 'work'.

Later, they planned to set another civil vehicle, a «Renault», on fire, parked near its owner's residence.

The police arrested the criminals just before they could carry out the act. They seized flammable materials, a lighter, tape, and other items prepared for the arson, as well as mobile phones with messages from their accomplice, which serve as evidence in the case.

The investigators detained the girls in accordance with procedural regulations and, based on the collected evidence, informed them of their suspicion of willful damage to property and attempted arson, committed by a group in conspiracy. According to the sanctions of part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they could face up to 10 years in prison.

The court has imposed a measure of house arrest for the suspects. Investigative actions are ongoing under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa.
