Dolphin Deaths in the Black Sea: New Insights

According to a report by Ivan Rusev, an ecologist from the «Tuzlovsky Limans» National Park, the situation regarding dolphins in the Black Sea is alarming.

Experts indicate that dolphins are not only dying due to water pollution but also due to the effects of military sonars that cause concussions in marine mammals. This has been especially pronounced since 2022, with the escalation of war.

He emphasizes that dolphins become susceptible to diseases due to injuries sustained from sound waves emitted by the military. «This leads to a decrease in immunity and an increase in diseases, including skin disorders,» Rusev states.

Estimates suggest that over the last three years, more than 80,000 cetaceans have died due to military actions, including the use of mines and bombings, while thousands more have perished from oil pollution in the sea.
