Celebrating 35 Years of Partnership: Odesa and Gdansk Unite
Next year, Odesa and Gdansk will celebrate 35 years of friendly relations. To mark this occasion, a festive concert and other events are planned in Gdansk as part of the project «Odesa Pays a Visit» in the spring.
During the visit, the Odesa delegation discussed the organizational details of the cultural program.
Another focus was on strengthening professional cooperation. At the invitation of the Polish side, the Odesa delegation participated in the BALEXPO 2025 international exhibition, where key topics included port infrastructure, logistics, and innovation.
«This was an opportunity to showcase the potential of our community and neighboring areas while reaffirming our commitment to joint development with European partners,» said Olena Zakharchenko-Netuzhilova, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Culture, and Marketing.
During the meetings, the following topics were discussed:
- the expansion of partnership ties;
- sharing experiences in local-level Euro-integration;
- joint project development for attracting funding from European sources;
- inter-municipal cooperation of neighboring communities and the creation of functional territories;
- Ukrainian practices of civil protection and rapid government response in wartime.
«The partnership with Odesa is about trust, joint initiatives, and the desire to move forward together,» emphasized Gdansk Deputy Mayor Piotr Gzhelak.
Gdansk is a port city on the Baltic coast of Poland, rich in history and multicultural heritage, with strategic significance. Like Odesa, it combines maritime trade, architectural beauty, dramatic historical events, and a spirit of revival.
