Environmental Disaster: Mass Fish Deaths in Odesa Region
A tragic event has occurred in the Odesa region, with the mass death of silver crucian carp reported. This was disclosed by the State Agency for Melioration and Fisheries of Ukraine.
The Odesa Fish Protection Patrol received a report regarding the death of aquatic resources in a water body near the village of Zherebkove in the Podilskyi district.
To verify the information and respond appropriately, fish protection officers, together with local authorities, representatives from the State Environmental Inspection, the State Consumer Service, and the Emergency Service, promptly arrived at the scene.
During their visual inspection of the water body, the patrol discovered the death of young silver crucian carp. Notably, the water exhibited an unnatural bright pink coloration.
Following the assessment of the water body, the fish protectors compiled the necessary report. Meanwhile, to determine the causes of the aquatic resource deaths, staff from the State Environmental Inspection collected water samples for laboratory analysis.
Currently, specialists from the Odesa Fish Protection Patrol continue to monitor the situation in the water body.
