Withdrawal of Coins: Important Information

The National Bank of Ukraine is set to withdraw cash coins, yet the 10 kopeck coins will remain a valid payment method. This was announced by the NBU.

Retail chains, banks, and service enterprises in Ukraine will continue to accept 10 kopeck coins for transactions. Citizens will not need to exchange or submit them.

Starting from October 1, the NBU will cease minting new 10 kopeck coins and will no longer replenish bank cash registers with these coins. Once in banks, these coins will not re-enter circulation but will be withdrawn and sent to the NBU for disposal.

“Considering the significant quantity of 10 kopeck coins in circulation and the declining demand for them, we have decided on their gradual withdrawal. This will help reduce costs associated with their production and handling,” the NBU stated.

It should be noted that coins of 1, 2, and 5 kopecks were withdrawn from circulation on October 1, 2019, and 25 kopecks from October 1, 2020. After the withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins, the 50 kopeck coin will remain the smallest denomination in Ukraine.
