Natural Gas Storage in Ukraine Hits New Records

As of September 14, 2025, the natural gas reserves in Ukraine's underground storage facilities have exceeded last year's levels for the first time this year, reaching 12.055 billion cubic meters.

According to ExPro, on this date, the underground storage held 12.055 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 0.05% higher than the 12.05 billion cubic meters recorded on September 14, 2024.

The gap is expected to widen in the coming days.

It's noteworthy that at the beginning of this year's injection season (April 17), there were only 5.41 billion cubic meters of gas in the storage, which is 35% less than on April 17, 2024. Throughout the injection season, Ukraine managed to eliminate this gap largely due to increased imports.

Since the start of the injection season, approximately 6.68 billion cubic meters of gas have been injected into the underground storage, which is 1.67 times more than in 2024. More gas has been injected throughout 2025 than was stored at the end of the heating season.

In September 2025, the average daily injection is 53.9 million cubic meters, which is 2.3 times more than in September 2024. About half of this volume consists of imported resources.

The average daily import in September is 23.6 million cubic meters, primarily provided by the state-owned company Naftogaz of Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the filling of European underground gas storage facilities reached 80% (86 billion cubic meters) as of September 13-14. This is the lowest filling level since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, yet this year's reserves are higher than in 2021.
