Enhancing Accessibility in Odessa

Odessa — a city rich in architectural heritage, boasting over 2000 cultural landmarks.

Many of these sites require modernization with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility.

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, and his advisor on barrier-free spaces, Alexey Morozov, held a working meeting with UNDP representative, Kyiv architect Artem Moiseenko, an expert in contextual inclusion and architectural accessibility.

Odessa intends to apply for a competition on barrier-free route projects. During the discussions, particular attention was given to tourist routes in the historic city center.

Topics included the establishment of accessible movement routes, installation of navigation elements, ramps, and handrails to facilitate comfortable and safe use of urban spaces for people with diverse needs.

Specifically, meeting participants considered ensuring full architectural accessibility of the Odessa City Council building.
