Investigators have concluded the preliminary investigation and submitted the indictment to the court regarding the offender. He faces up to eight years in prison for causing severe bodily harm.
This was reported by the police.
The incident occurred in September of last year in the Primorsky district of Odesa. During the preliminary investigation, police established that a 67-year-old resident of Mykolaiv region, having missed his train, decided to spend the night in a high-rise building where accommodations are rented out daily, based on the advice of passersby.
By accidentally confusing the apartment number, the elderly man began to knock on the door of a 31-year-old local resident and tried to open it. When the owner came out, a dispute arose between the two men regarding why the passerby entered the residential area where he did not live.
The verbal conflict escalated into a fight, during which the younger local man assaulted the elderly visitor. The victim lost consciousness, and the offender dragged him to the fence, where he struck him several more times before leaving.
The injured man was discovered by a bus station guard who informed the police. Medics hospitalized the victim with a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, brain contusion, and numerous head abrasions. According to the conclusion of the forensic examination appointed by the police, these injuries are classified as severe in terms of life-threatening danger. The perpetrator who inflicted severe bodily harm on the hospitalized victim was located and detained by officers of the police department No. 2 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 early in the morning.
“The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, at our request, was placed in custody, where he remains to this day. Having gathered enough evidence of the illegal actions of the suspect, we charged him under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This pertains to intentional infliction of severe bodily harm, dangerous to life at the moment of infliction. The indictment has been forwarded to the court.
