New Opportunities for Senior Military Personnel
On July 29, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a new law that allows individuals over 60 years old to enlist in military service on a contract basis.
The document stipulates that during martial law, with the written consent of the unit commander, citizens aged 60 and older who are deemed fit by a military medical commission can be recruited. These service members may hold non-combat positions among privates, sergeants, or officers. The contracts for individuals aged 60+ are set for one year with the possibility of extension. For officers of this age, approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces is required. This category of contract soldiers will undergo a two-month probation period, and if they do not meet the standards, their contracts will be revoked.
Should martial law be lifted or canceled, all such contracts will automatically become void.
