Alaska Airlines Suspends Flights Again Due to Technical Issues

Alaska Airlines has announced a temporary suspension of all flights due to issues with its IT systems. This marks the second major incident for the airline in the past year.

According to Reuters, on Sunday evening, Alaska Airlines halted all flights following a technical failure that occurred around 8:00 PM Pacific Time (3:00 AM GMT on Monday). The specific cause of the failure has not been disclosed.

The airline stated that residual effects would be felt throughout the evening, but no further details have been provided. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also not commented on the situation.

This incident is the second significant disruption for Alaska Airlines in a year. In April 2024, the airline suspended flights due to an error in the system responsible for calculating the weight and balance of aircraft.

Additionally, in June, Alaska's subsidiary, Hawaiian Airlines, reported a hacker attack that affected part of its IT systems. This incident coincided with warnings from Google and Palo Alto Networks regarding the activities of a hacker group called 'Scattered Spider', which has shown interest in the aviation sector.

Alaska Air Group operates 238 Boeing aircraft and 87 Embraer planes. The airline has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the potential link between the cyberattack and the recent incident.
