Greek Delegation's Visit to Odesa
On October 21, 2024, acting Odesa Mayor Oleksandr Filatov held a meeting with a delegation from the Hellenic Republic, led by Dimitrios Skalkos, the Secretary General for International Economic Relations at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in the city, bilateral cooperation, and plans for Odesa's recovery amid the war.
«We are truly grateful for your visit. It takes great courage to come to a country at war. We appreciate the support Greece provides to Ukraine, especially to Odesa,» noted Oleksandr Filatov.
«Our visit is not an act of bravery, for true courage lies in living as you do, continuing to develop the city during wartime. We feel a moral obligation to support you,» said Mr. Skalkos.
The Greek delegation confirmed its readiness to support restoration projects and assist in Ukraine's recovery. The work of the Greece-Ukraine Friendship Parliamentary Group was also highlighted, which actively promotes strengthening collaboration between the countries.
For instance, in August 2023, the city of Corfu (Greece) hosted a group of Odesa children for rest and rehabilitation. From August 28 to September 11, 2024, a group of 44 children from Odesa and 5 accompanying adults spent time at the children's camp of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and all of Greece (Avlon, near Athens). Currently, efforts are underway to secure humanitarian aid from the Hellenic Republic in the form of work clothing for the city's communal services.
