Winter Preparedness of Municipal Roads Company

To ensure safe travel and effective response to winter conditions, the Municipal Roads Company is implementing a series of preparatory activities.

Traditionally, street cleaning operations are completed by early November, and equipment is being upgraded. Tanks are removed from washing trucks and replaced with sand-salt spreaders.

Winter equipment is being installed, and most vehicles will be fitted with snow plows. Additionally, all machinery undergoes inspection and preventive maintenance. Once preparations are complete, the functionality of the equipment will be tested on the company premises.

The Municipal Roads Company has snow removal machines, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, loaders, and other equipment at its disposal. A total of 104 units of equipment and 560 workers will be involved in snow removal and ice control during the 2024-2025 winter season. As of November 4, 37 units of equipment have been upgraded and are ready for use. All preparations should be completed by the end of November.

The company is also stockpiling a sand-salt mixture for ice management. In case of worsening weather conditions, it is supplied with 11,860 tons of reagents for road treatment.

The Municipal Roads Company has developed 17 routes for snow removal vehicles to ensure prompt clearing of roads from snow drifts and ice. Moreover, there are 54 routes designated for spreading reagents on streets to reduce road hazards during icy conditions.

From December 1, 2024, the traditional round-the-clock duty of the Municipal Roads Company crews will commence to swiftly respond to deteriorating weather conditions. The duty rooms are prepared, and the staff operating the equipment is provided with winter clothing.
