Stormwater System Maintenance in Odesa: Recent Achievements

The municipal enterprise «City Roads» actively engages in maintaining the stormwater drainage system in good condition.

Experts carry out repairs and cleaning of stormwater collectors, drain grates, stormwater wells, and specialized hydraulic structures such as drainage ditches and buffer ponds from mud, leaves, and debris.

Cleaning of the stormwater drainage system in Odesa is performed regularly according to a schedule across the city. During heavy rainfall, teams from «City Roads» respond quickly to ensure unobstructed drainage of water from the streets.

In the first nine months of this year, specialists completed cleaning: ditches and channels - 15,369 linear meters, stormwater drains - 3,902, collectors - 4,997 linear meters, and washing of pipes - 21,479 linear meters.

Additionally, grass mowing was conducted on ditches and channels (10,060 linear meters) and 1,735.6 square meters of the buffer pond were cleaned.

Stormwater system cleaning is performed manually and with heavy machinery: excavators, graders, high-pressure hydraulic units based on MAN trucks for washing pipes, trucks, and other specialized equipment.

Moreover, specialists conduct repairs of wells, replace pipes in stormwater drains, and, if necessary, raise grates to road level and restore access covers for inspection wells.

Since the beginning of 2024, the enterprise's workers have installed and replaced 55 grates on stormwater wells and repaired 26 stormwater drains with new castings.

During operation, stormwater well grates tend to sink, creating depressions that can lead to accidents. Experts from «City Roads» regularly address this issue.

Thus, since the beginning of this year, the municipal workers have raised 91 sunken stormwater well grates to road level and installed 19 inspection wells at road level. They also repaired 8 inspection wells with casting replacements and installed 3 covering slabs on inspection wells and 11 on stormwater drains.

Additionally, since the beginning of this year, the enterprise's workers have repaired 41 linear meters of collectors, conducted video inspections of 556 linear meters of collectors, and pumped out 1,039 cubic meters of stormwater from the roadway.
