Rehabilitation Services in Odesa: New Opportunities for Patients

This year, more than 5000 patients in Odesa have accessed rehabilitation services at city healthcare facilities.

These hospitals signed contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine, allowing them to provide these services free of charge to both Odesa residents and internally displaced persons.

Seven medical institutions in Odesa offer outpatient rehabilitation for both adults and children. Over the nine months of 2024, more than 3600 patients, including over 1500 children, received these services.

Four hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation services, catering to around 1500 patients, 825 of whom are children.

Adaptive sports play a vital role in comprehensive rehabilitation, aiding the health improvement of our defenders and their integration into everyday life.

The Health Department of the Odesa City Council, in collaboration with NGOs, is actively promoting the development of adaptive sports, including basketball, golf, table tennis, billiards, boxing, diving, and others. Portable adaptive golf courses are being set up in city medical institutions.

Thanks to specialized vehicles from the City Emergency Medical Center, it is possible to transport and provide medical escort for patients and veterans to healthcare facilities for rehabilitation, training, and wellness programs.

To create an accessible environment, the Health Department collaborates with NGOs and foundations. In September 2024, a Memorandum was signed with the NGO “Barrier-Free” to provide specialized vehicles equipped with lifts.

A department for coordinating rehabilitation services has been established within the Health Department to ensure efficient access to rehabilitation in Odesa's medical facilities. The head of this department, leading rehabilitation specialist Vasyl Rybak, personally meets with veterans weekly and coordinates multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams across the city.
