Enhancing Accessibility of Medical Services for People with Disabilities in Odesa
The Odesa City Council's Health Department is actively engaged in improving access to medical services for people with disabilities.
This includes the installation of ramps, elevators, the provision of accessible restrooms, navigational aids, and the ability for individuals in wheelchairs to move independently within healthcare facilities.
Healthcare institutions are implementing initiatives to create barrier-free environments for patients, such as designated parking spaces, tactile paving, entrance areas equipped with ramps, functional elevators, restrooms designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities, and informational signage featuring Braille.
Additional consultation rooms for patient examinations, including those with special needs, are available on the ground floors.
The principle of barrier-free access is being integrated into all outpatient and inpatient medical facilities. Renovations have been completed for accessible entrances at the Primary Healthcare Center No. 2, as well as at Diagnostic Consultation Centers No. 20 and No. 29.
In the city’s clinical hospitals No. 1, No. 10, No. 11, and the Municipal Children's Clinical Hospital No. 3, efforts are ongoing to create inclusive wards that meet modern accessibility standards for patients with various disabilities, including severe cases requiring constant assistance.
This involves equipping functional beds, monitoring systems for vital signs, and ceiling or mobile lifts.
With the support of charitable organizations, healthcare facilities in the city have also received additional inclusive equipment, including gynecological chairs with lifts and more.
