Implementing Energy Independence in Healthcare Facilities in Odesa

In Odesa, there are 33 public healthcare institutions that provide urgent, planned, rehabilitative, and palliative medical assistance to the population, military personnel, and internally displaced individuals.

Due to the challenges posed by the war, a primary objective is ensuring the energy autonomy of medical facilities.

All healthcare institutions are equipped with diesel and gasoline generators of various capacities in case of power outages. Currently, there are 152 generators in medical institutions, including 63 high-capacity generators. In the absence of centralized electricity supply, high-capacity generators in hospitals providing round-the-clock care automatically activate, ensuring the operation of medical equipment.

Seven medical facilities are equipped with solar power stations and energy storage devices.
Additionally, there are 14 gas, diesel, and solid fuel boiler houses in healthcare institutions, which enable autonomous heating. Preparatory works for the installation of modular boilers using alternative fuels are ongoing in some hospitals as part of a memorandum with the World Health Organization in Ukraine.

With financial support from UNICEF, artesian wells and water fountains have been established on the premises of four city hospitals, ensuring autonomous water supply. Medical institutions also maintain reserves of technical and drinking water.
