Advancements in Oncology Care in Odesa

On October 29, 2025, a seminar was held in Odesa focused on the latest advancements in treating breast and lung cancer.

The event, organized with the support of the Odesa Department of Health, the National Association of Evidence-Based Medicine, and the Family Medicine Association of the Odesa region, aimed at enhancing the skills of medical professionals.

Topics discussed included early diagnosis and prevention of cancer, breakthroughs in lung cancer diagnostics, treatment organization, and patient pathways for those with oncological conditions, as well as support for palliative patients and their families throughout the illness.

According to last year’s data, more than 47,000 cancer patients were registered in Odesa, including 168 children, highlighting the relevance of preventative measures and early malignant tumor diagnosis.

The Odesa Department of Health launched the initiative «Odesa Against Cancer» aimed at improving diagnostic and treatment accessibility for oncological diseases and promoting preventive measures among the population.

Weekly preventive screenings conducted by the department have significantly increased public participation in cancer screenings aimed at early disease detection.

In the first half of 2025, over 30,000 preventive examinations were conducted in Odesa’s medical institutions, with more than 15,500 being cancer screenings, resulting in the identification of 300 new cases of suspected oncological pathology.

Department specialists developed patient roadmaps for timely prevention and early detection of oncological diseases, available via QR codes on mobile devices.

Informational posters have been placed at bus stops and in city advertising spaces to widely disseminate information about early diagnostic and preventive opportunities for cancer among the residents of Odesa.
