New Shipment of Hepatitis B Vaccine Arrives in Odesa Region
The Odesa region has received 1,600 doses of hepatitis B vaccine intended for free immunization of at-risk adults. The vaccine has already been delivered to the Odesa Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as reported by the institution.
Currently, the distribution of the vaccines among medical facilities in the region is underway.
Overall, Ukraine has received 37,500 doses of hepatitis B vaccine through collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the humanitarian organization Project HOPE Polska.
Why Vaccination Against Hepatitis B is Important: Insights from Healthcare Professionals
Hepatitis B is a serious viral infection that affects the liver and can lead to chronic disease, cirrhosis, or cancer. Chronic hepatitis B is incurable, but vaccination prevents infection in over 90% of cases, with protection lasting at least 20 years, and sometimes for life.
Newborns are at the highest risk, as 90% of infections at a young age transition into chronic form. This is why vaccination against hepatitis B is included in the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations and is provided free of charge.
Priority groups for hepatitis B vaccination among adults include healthcare professionals, military personnel, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, firefighters, social service staff (emergency services), as well as personnel and patients of closed institutions (psychiatric facilities, etc.) and other at-risk groups.
Children in Ukraine receive vaccinations against ten dangerous diseases, including hepatitis B. According to the Ukrainian Center for Public Health, as of July 1, 2025, 5,590 Ukrainians were receiving treatment for viral hepatitis B, including 125 children.
This shipment is part of a joint project between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and Project HOPE Ukraine aimed at strengthening immunoprophylaxis and protecting the population from infectious diseases.
