Barrier-Free Space for the Filatov Institute
Ophthalmologists have approached the Barrier-Free Council under the Odesa mayor to advocate for support for the Eye Disease Institute named after V.P. Filatov in implementing barrier-free solutions on its premises. This includes paving pedestrian zones with tactile elements, ensuring accessible navigation, and providing information in Braille — all of which are critically important for visually impaired patients.
“I will bring this issue to the attention of the council, as the Filatov Institute is not just a medical facility. It is a research center with over a century of history, under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its contributions to the development of ophthalmology are recognized not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. We will definitely find ways to help,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The clinic serves around 500 patients daily, including civilians, children, individuals with disabilities, and military personnel receiving highly qualified assistance.
Previously, repairs to sidewalks and the installation of a traffic light had already been completed on the section of French Boulevard near the institution.
“The next logical step should be to create a fully accessible environment that meets the status of the institution and the needs of its patients,” noted the mayor’s advisor on accessibility, Oleksiy Morozov.
