Successful Stroke Treatment in Odesa
At City Clinical Hospital No. 10 in Odesa, a complex surgery was successfully performed to save a patient who suffered a stroke.
According to Alexander Skripka, head of the endovascular radiology department, this was one of the most challenging cases: a brainstem injury. The basilar artery was nearly completely blocked by an atherosclerotic plaque. Such strokes are extremely dangerous, and without immediate medical assistance, survival chances are very low.
The specialists decided to operate and perform angioplasty on the artery. Although Hospital No. 10 has experience in this treatment method in cardiology, applying it to cerebral vessels is an innovative approach in Ukraine.
The surgery lasted about an hour. The narrowed artery was expanded using a special balloon, followed by a balloon with a drug coating.
The patient will still undergo rehabilitation, but she is already able to talk, move, and has every chance of returning to a full life.
Hospital No. 10 is equipped with its own angiograph, and the city authorities continuously upgrade the hospital's equipment. This enables doctors to implement modern treatment methods, save lives, and preserve patients' health.
