Boxing Championship for Youth and Juniors in Odessa
From October 9 to 12, 2024, the Odessa regional boxing championship for juniors (2011-2012) and youth (2007-2008) took place.
A total of 101 young boxers participated, along with 61 athletes from various districts of the region and the city.
Odessa was represented by students from sports schools No. 5 and No. 8, currently training 60 and 54 boxers respectively.
Ten athletes from sports school No. 8 competed in the tournament, with 9 winning medals.
In the junior category, Alexander Shchupak (80 kg) took first place, while Samig Abbasov (48 kg) and Yaroslav Kuklev (50 kg) secured second places, and third places went to Mikhail Averin (57 kg), Yaroslav Zukhin (53 kg), and Artem Farik (38 kg).
In the youth category, Gennady Dmitrenko (63.5 kg) became the champion, with Ivan Karpov (54 kg) and Artur Prodan (67 kg) as silver medalists.
Sports school No. 5 had 7 athletes competing, 6 of whom also earned medals.
Tamara Didenko (75 kg) became the champion, while David Tyukavkin (36 kg) and Andriy Surmay (63.5 kg) took silver. Among the juniors, bronze medals were awarded to Daniil Steshenko (60 kg), Dmytro Budygai (75 kg), and Matviy Makhonko (66 kg).
The athletes were trained by coaches: Volodymyr Osipchuk, Igor Hordiienko, and Dmytro Boboshko (sports school No. 8), as well as Yuriy Tsuyun and Volodymyr Zhelezko (sports school No. 5).

This year, student of sports school No. 8 Ilya Rybin won a silver medal at the Ukrainian championship for juniors born in 2010-2011 and received an invitation to the national youth team. Additionally, student of sports school No. 5 Rashad Rasulov became the champion of Ukraine among students, while Imran Hadzhiev from sports school No. 8 earned a silver medal at this tournament.
