Forensic Science Workshop for Students
A recent educational workshop was held for students at a local high school, led by forensic specialists from the Odessa District Police Department, including Police Captain Maksym Pasichnyi and Senior Lieutenant Yuliia Sokerchak.
The officers shared with the students various methods of collecting and analyzing evidence, which play a crucial role in solving crimes. A significant focus was placed on the traces left by perpetrators at crime scenes. The forensic experts demonstrated the contents of their kits and explained how to properly take fingerprints while highlighting the differences in techniques.
«Every interested student had the opportunity to act as a forensic specialist by fingerprinting their classmates. The students quickly realized that the quality of evidence collection is vital for solving crimes, and they approached their tasks with the seriousness as if they were truly working with a criminal and could not afford mistakes,» noted Police Captain Maksym Pasichnyi.
The students were particularly intrigued by the real-life experiences of the police, so the meeting included discussions about actual cases that showcased the importance of prompt and effective work by forensic specialists in serious crime investigations. Additionally, the officers presented a video of a forensic expert from the National Police of Ukraine involved in high-profile cases, including inspections of areas affected by missile strikes.
Every year, graduates face a tough career choice, so at the end of the meeting, the officers provided information about the training at universities within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which prepares police officers and facilitates their employment in regional police departments.
«I believe that such meetings help young people consciously choose their future profession, and I would be pleased if any of the students decide to join the ranks of the National Police of Ukraine after this event,» concluded Senior Lieutenant Yuliia Sokerchak.
