Supporting Mental Health in Odessa's Educational Institutions
Throughout September, educational institutions under communal ownership in the Odessa community implemented a series of initiatives as part of the nationwide mental health program “How are you?”.
These activities were designed to support the mental well-being of all participants in the educational process.
Specifically, students participated in thematic weeks focused on mental health titled “To live in this world without regret, children, we must be friends!”. They engaged in psychological moments and emotional exercises, quests titled “With a Smile to the Land of Knowledge”, and sessions on “How to Overcome Fear During Air Alerts”. Students learned techniques to reduce emotional tension and cope with stress.
Additionally, a competition of social videos was held for students, titled “The Meaning of Life and My Place in It”, dance flash mobs during “Olympic Week”, training sessions, and discussions.
Teachers participated in roundtable discussions on “What is Mental Health and How to Preserve It?”, meetings with psychologists regarding “Children’s Mental Health during War”, activities from the “Safe Space” program, seminars, and lectures. These events facilitated discussions on how to support students during this challenging time.
Consultations and practical sessions on supporting children during the war were also provided for parents.
Moreover, school-wide events took place. Information stands with QR codes for the program “How are you?” were placed in accessible locations.
To enhance mental health, reduce stress, and develop resilience and self-esteem, school initiatives included “Mood Smile”, “Hugs”, psychological online classes, as well as individual consultations for all participants in the educational process.
