Celebrating the Art of Hennadiy Harmyder in Odesa
On March 1, 2025, the Odesa Museum of Western and Eastern Art hosted the opening of a special exhibition entitled «Hennadiy Harmyder: A Journey Through Art».
Hennadiy Vasylovych Harmyder is a renowned Ukrainian artist known for his graphic works, paintings, and book illustrations. His pieces, which encompass various techniques including oil painting and etching, beautifully capture urban landscapes and still lifes. He has illustrated around 200 books and created over 20 bookplates.
«Hennadiy Harmyder's artistry is a vital part of our cultural heritage. His works, which depict Odesa and its sister cities, are represented in many museums around the world and private collections», – noted the director of the Odesa City Council's Department of Culture.
During the exhibition opening, artists, journalists, and critics discussed the significance of Harmyder's work.
The exhibition features over 100 artworks created throughout his 50-year career.
Among the exhibits are etchings from series dedicated to Odesa's history, including «Odesa in the 19th Century» and «Theater in Odesa».
A unique highlight of the exhibition is a historical map of Odesa's center, created using etching and consisting of nine separate printed sections.
The series «My Ukraine» captures landscapes from various regions, while «10 Days on a Trimaran» conveys a sense of harmony with the sea.
Harmyder's paintings, although exhibited less frequently, are equally fascinating, with the last major showcase occurring in 2005.
This year, Hennadiy Harmyder would have turned 80. He left behind a vast legacy, with his works displayed in 27 museums across Ukraine.
The Odesa Museum is open daily from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, except Wednesdays.
