New Exhibit in Regensburg: German Heritage in Ukraine
A new exhibit titled "German Heritage in Ukraine" has opened at the UNESCO center in Regensburg.
This exhibition, brought from Odessa, showcases a collection of historical materials that highlight the lives of German settlers in the Odessa region since the early 1800s and their impact on local development.
The exhibit is divided into three sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical part was prepared by the renowned Odessa historian Alexander Surilov. The artistic section features works by Odessa artist Tatyana Romanenko.
Additionally, the exhibit presents the collaboration between our cities and the support Regensburg has provided to Odessa during the war.
The exhibition was organized with the assistance of the Odessa Department of Culture and the Regensburg Department of Culture.
During his visit to Germany, Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer opened the exhibition, attended by historians, scholars, and members of the Ukrainian community in Germany.
Gennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude to everyone for their support of Odessa, emphasizing the significance of this aid.
"Soon we will mark a thousand days of war, and we are thankful for the support we receive from European countries, especially from Regensburg," said the Odessa mayor.
He also noted that Odessa has become a refuge for thousands of displaced people, just as it was during the German colonization when various nations contributed to the city's development.
"The German community significantly influenced the agricultural sector, which in turn facilitated the development of the port and infrastructure. We value this contribution and continue to collaborate," he added.
Today, our ties with Regensburg remain strong, just like our faith in victory and Ukraine's independence. We believe in a better future and know that together we can overcome any challenges.
