Celebrating Elena Shevchenko: An Evening of Jazz and Inspiration
On November 8, 2024, the International Cultural Center UNION hosted a festive evening dedicated to the anniversary of the remarkable host of international jazz competitions and festivals, Elena Shevchenko, titled “Jazz and More.”
In recognition of her significant contributions to culture and the arts, Elena Shevchenko was honored with a valuable gift from the Mayor of Odessa and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Culture, International Cooperation, and European Integration of the Odessa City Council.
Elena is a musicologist and a lecturer at the pop music department of the K. Dankevich College of Arts, as well as the founder of the VKO Jazz Club named after M. Holoshchapov. Her achievements in the jazz field are widely recognized, earning her the title of “Lady Jazz.”
During the creative evening, her students and colleagues showcased various jazz performances. Young musicians from Art Schools No. 1, 3, and 4 took the stage.
The evening concluded with a traditional jam session that left a lasting impression on all attendees.
