Exhibition in Memory of Alexander Shkuropat in Odessa
The Odessa Municipal Museum of Private Collections named after O.V. Bleschunov has organized an exhibition in memory of the outstanding painter Alexander Yosypovych Shkuropat (1964—2008). This year marks the 60th birthday of the artist. To celebrate this significant date, admirers have prepared a documentary film and a memorial exhibition of painting and graphics titled «Revival».
Alexander Shkuropat began painting at the age of ten in a children's boarding school in Kiliya, Odessa region. His first solo exhibition took place in the summer of 1991 and became a significant event for the people of Odessa. Journalist and researcher Eduard Ratushnyak notes that the themes of his works are «keen observations of the periphery»: «At the first exhibition, it was already clear that this was an observation of the hidden life of a small Ukrainian village. To delve into them is to smile, ponder, be surprised, cry, and even burst out laughing».
The highlights of the artist’s career included the first International Art Festivals «Classical Avant-Garde and Contemporary Art of Ukraine» held in Kyiv in 1996 and 1997, where Alexander Shkuropat represented his city alongside other Odessa masters. His works have been exhibited in galleries in Lviv, Zurich, Kyiv, Odessa, Vienna, and other cities.
At the «Revival» exhibition, visitors can see paintings from the series «Odessa and Its Surroundings», «City of Fish», «My Ukraine», «The Abduction of Europe», as well as the «home» works left by the master for himself and his family as a reminder of the beginning of his creative journey. These rarities will be shown to the public for the first time.
The exhibition is conditionally divided into four sections in the museum’s exhibition space «Apartment No. 6»:
- the first hall «Student Life. Painting and Graphics. Exhibition Posters. Mid 80s – 90s of the 20th-21st century»;
- the second hall «Painting. 80s, 90s of the 20th century – early 21st century»;
- glass stand «Albums. Photos. Catalogs. Newspapers. Manuscripts»;
- portfolio «Drawings, engravings. Mid 80s».
In addition to the works featured in the «Revival» exhibition, the project curators have over 60 pieces by Alexander Shkuropat in their collection.
The exhibition will run from October 3 to 27. Visiting days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 11 AM to 5 PM.
