In Memory of Sergey Ilyin: A Tribute to a Distinguished Artist
At the age of 76, the renowned Odessa artist Sergey Mikhailovich Ilyin passed away unexpectedly, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, an art historian, and a senior researcher at the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art.
Born on April 30, 1949, Sergey Ilyin graduated from the Grekov Odessa Art School and the graphic arts department of the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University. He dedicated many years to the Museum of Western and Eastern Art.
Sergey Mikhailovich was deeply committed to his craft, and his sincere love for culture and art significantly contributed to the development of the museum. He seamlessly combined the roles of an art historian and a literary scholar, skillfully managing the presentation of works at exhibitions, understanding the essence of each artist, which allowed for optimal presentation of their works.
In addition to his creative endeavors, Sergey Ilyin led a film lecture series at the museum since 1996 while also painting. He participated in numerous international exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, and other cities. His solo exhibitions were held in Potsdam (Germany), Kyiv, and his hometown of Odessa.
Within the professional community and among friends, Sergey Ilyin was regarded as a talented, kind, and decent person, a true intellectual.
