In Memory of Valeriy Khait: A Legend of Odessa Literature
On February 1, 2025, at the age of 85, the eminent Odessa writer and satirist Valeriy Isaakovich Khait passed away.
His life was intricately linked with Odessa, the literary scene, and humor.
Valeriy Khait was a renowned author, journalist, playwright, and television host known for:
- serving as the vice-president of the World Club of Odessa Residents since 1990;
- being a co-founder of the Odessa Humoryna;
- acting as the chief editor of the humorous magazine «Fontan»;
- creating and hosting the TV show «Fontan-Club» on the 1+1 channel;
- leading legendary KVN teams from Odessa;
- receiving literary awards and editing publications showcasing Odessa humor;
- initiating the establishment of the Odessa International Literary Prize named after Isaac Babel and the erection of a monument to the writer.
The Odessa City Council expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the talented Odessa writer, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of Odessa residents.
