Honor for Mariluise Beck for Humanitarian Efforts
Mariluise Beck, a German politician and director of the Center for Liberal Modernity focusing on Eastern and Central Europe, has been awarded an Honorary Award from the Mayor of Odessa for her active humanitarian efforts, support for the residents of Odessa during wartime, and strengthening international cooperation.
Under her initiative, the memorial project «Against Forgetting» was developed on Lustdorf Road, a site where over 25,000 people, primarily of Jewish and Romani descent, were burned alive in 1941.
A grant of one million euros was secured for its implementation. However, due to the war, the work had to be postponed, and funds were redirected to humanitarian needs of the city.
As a result, Odessa received essential resources such as transportation, special equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other critical items.
The city authorities express their gratitude for this support and hope to realize pre-war projects and continue collaboration for the development of Odessa.
