New Security Initiatives in the Black Sea
Negotiations are currently underway in Turkey concerning security issues in the Black Sea. These discussions are taking place at a military level with the involvement of leaders from the United Kingdom and France.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference in Odesa, these meetings hold significant importance for the region.
Zelensky indicated that a crucial meeting is taking place in Turkey regarding Black Sea security, focusing on the “coalition of willing countries.”
“These discussions are being held over two days at the invitation of our Turkish colleagues. They have invited representatives from Europe, including the UK and France, and Ukraine and Turkey as the host nation,” he stated.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense previously announced that a meeting will take place on April 15-16, aimed at discussing Black Sea security in light of a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
Although earlier reports suggested that Russian representatives would be present at the meeting, this was denied by Ankara.
It is worth noting that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia from March 23-25, the US, Russia, and Ukraine agreed to discuss maritime security in the Black Sea.
However, following this, Russia presented a list of demands, including the easing of certain sanctions on the agricultural sector. The US stated they would review these demands, while European nations rejected the idea of sanction relief.
