He stressed the unwavering support of NATO and promised continued assistance to Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people have endured so much – not just the Russian attack on Sumy during Palm Sunday. NATO's support is steadfast. We will continue to help Ukraine defend itself today and deter future aggression, ensuring a just and lasting peace," Rutte wrote.
For his part, Zelensky shared on X that he and Rutte visited a hospital where Ukrainian defenders are recovering from injuries. He also posted a video from this visit.
"I spoke with the soldiers. I awarded the defenders with state honors. I thank the guys for their strength, resilience, and for protecting our people," he wrote.
On April 4, after the conclusion of the Alliance's ministerial meeting, Rutte stated that the Alliance's decision regarding Ukraine's NATO membership remains unchanged despite all political statements.
On the same day, Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev, who was in Washington, claimed that the Trump administration understands the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's position on Ukraine's NATO membership being impossible.
