Japan Reinforces Support for Ukraine's Energy Sector
During his visit to Ukraine, the newly appointed Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr. Takeshi Iwaya, emphasized Japan's commitment to continue supporting Ukraine, particularly through a new aid package for the energy sector.
The Japanese government is a crucial partner of UNDP in Ukraine, consistently funding the procurement of equipment necessary for the restoration of critical infrastructure.
Odesa has already received its first gas turbine cogeneration unit with a capacity of 3.3 MW, which is currently being installed. Soon, the city expects two more similar units that will cover approximately one-third of the energy needs of the critical infrastructure for water supply, heating, and sewage services.
The Mayor of Odesa noted that during the full-scale war, the city is actively working on building its own energy system despite the challenging conditions and constant shelling.
«We are immensely grateful to Japan, our sister city Yokohama, which was the first to support us, as well as to the UNDP team and all other countries that are helping us build the foundation of our resilience together with the people of Odesa,» said Gennady Trukhanov.
