Celebrating Railway Workers' Day

On the occasion of Railway Workers' Day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky extended his congratulations to the employees of Ukrzaliznytsia and awarded them the «For Merits» III degree medals. Additionally, he conferred the honorary title of «Honored Worker of Transport of Ukraine».

«Ukrainian railways are recovering from significant challenges while maintaining essential routes for passenger and cargo transport. Since the beginning of the year, Ukrzaliznytsia has transported over 135 million tons of cargo, with more than 90% of passenger trains arriving on time, even under difficult circumstances», noted the President.

Volodymyr Zelensky also highlighted the humanitarian role of Ukrzaliznytsia: more than 3650 medical train journeys have been made to rescue injured defenders and evacuate people from conflict zones. Moreover, railway workers facilitated over 1100 trips for foreign leaders to Ukraine.

The President assured that the government would increase salaries and support programs for Ukrzaliznytsia.

«The railway serves as a vital line of defense for our country. Unfortunately, we have lost 948 railway workers, 753 of whom gave their lives for our freedom», he added.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of the fallen railway workers.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba and other Ukrzaliznytsia representatives presented the President with a new sleeper car and the first barrier-free car designed for people with disabilities, adapted for wheelchair passengers.

Furthermore, President Zelensky was shown an artistic car featuring images that depict the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

The President also interacted with the staff of the Food Train, which provides meals to residents of cities affected by Russian shelling.
