Arson Case: Homeless Man Attempts Revenge

In Odesa, police have apprehended a 50-year-old homeless man for setting a car on fire out of personal grievance against its owner. The court has imposed a detention order. The suspect could face up to 10 years in prison.

This was reported by the police press service.

Recently, firefighters contacted the police to report a fire involving a Volkswagen vehicle in the Peresyp district. Within three hours, investigators determined that the arson was committed by a 50-year-old man without a permanent residence.

Investigators collected physical evidence and sent it for examination. It was found that the man committed the crime as revenge against a 30-year-old owner for refusing to let him enter the lobby of an apartment building where his friend lives.

"We have detained the suspect and charged him with intentional damage to another's property by arson. According to part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by up to ten years in prison. The court has chosen a detention measure with the possibility of bail set at 121,120 UAH. The extent of the damage caused is being determined. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa," stated Natalia Mrochko, deputy head of the investigative department.
