Young Swimmer's Triumph at the European Championship
On the final day of the 2025 European Championship, Ukraine excelled in the only final event in the 50-meter freestyle.
18-year-old swimmer from Odesa's SDYUSSHOR «Dynamo» Nikita Sheremet made his international debut in adult competitions.
In the final, Sheremet clocked an impressive time of 20.81 seconds, breaking both the Ukrainian and world junior records. With this achievement, he earned a silver medal at Euro-2025, sharing second place with Olympic medalist Maxime Grusse from France.
During the championship, Nikita also set two additional Ukrainian junior records: in the 4x50m relay and in the 100m freestyle. He brought Ukraine its first medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the Euro for the first time in 12 years.
The young athlete is coached by Alla Timofeeva and Oleksandra Kurbanova.
