Restoration of Historical Heritage in Vasylivka

In the village of Vasylivka, located in the Odesa region, a significant event has occurred with the return of an architectural heritage site – the 'Manor House' is now once again under communal ownership. This structure, which had been deteriorating for years, now belongs to the local community, according to the Odesa regional prosecutor's office.

The manor was built in 1845 for General Ivan Dubytsky, a participant in the Crimean War. The building, designed in a classical style, was known for its symmetry, columns, and arched windows. In 1937, it was nationalized, and after World War II, it housed a school and administrative offices.

In 2010, the manor was transferred to private ownership with conditions for maintenance and restoration. However, the new owner failed to fulfill these obligations, resulting in further decline of the building due to vandalism and weather conditions.

According to a ruling by the Economic Court on February 3, 2025, the purchase agreement was terminated, and the manor, with a total area exceeding 2300 square meters, was returned to the community. On March 6, 2025, the parties signed an acceptance transfer act between the Vygodyanska Village Council and the defendant.

Beyond its architectural value, the manor is linked to the name of Sergey Pankeev – the 'Wolf-Man,' a patient of Sigmund Freud. According to local legends, Pankeev considered the manor his ancestral heritage and frequently visited Vasylivka. The isolation chamber in the building's basement, as locals say, has become the foundation for legends about the 'Wolf's Den.'
