Robbery Incident in Odessa: Suspect Apprehended

A robbery occurred in the city center of Odessa, where a thief approached the victim under the pretense of conversation, then stole jewelry from him. The perpetrator, with multiple prior convictions and over 11 years served in prison, now faces up to 10 years in incarceration.

A 33-year-old man reported to the police that he had been robbed in the city center. Law enforcement responded quickly to the call and apprehended the suspect, who was hiding in the entrance of a residential building.

According to Irina Yablonska, the deputy head of the investigation department at Odessa District Police No. 2, the criminal noticed a gold chain with a cross around the neck of a stranger, initiated a conversation, and at the right moment suddenly snatched the jewelry and fled.

The total value of the stolen property amounted to 35 thousand hryvnias, but the offender was unable to make use of it. He refused to explain his actions.

The detained individual had previous convictions for theft, robbery, and attempted murder, having spent over 11 years in prison overall.

“We have informed him of the suspicion of openly stealing someone else's property, that is, robbery, committed repeatedly during a state of war. Under part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years. The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and we are considering applying a preventive measure in the form of detention,” added police captain Irina Yablonska.

The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Black Sea District Prosecutor's Office.
