Captivating Photo Exhibition on Planet's Beauty in Odesa

On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition showcasing the beauty and fragility of our planet will open at 2 Soborna Square in Odesa.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition, a collaborative effort between Ukrainian and Peruvian artists, is titled "Planet on the Edge: Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon." It features photographs from two drastically different ecosystems: the tropical Amazon rainforest and the icy expanse of Antarctica.

The exhibition comprises 36 photographs displayed in pairs, highlighting the shared challenges faced by the contrasting Amazon and Antarctica, including human impact, vulnerable species, and breathtaking beauty.

The Amazon photographs were taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher from the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, primarily during 2024.

The Antarctic images were captured by Ukrainian researchers who worked on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.

Scientists noted that both ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. Record droughts in the lush Amazon forests and melting glaciers in Antarctica are symptoms of the same illness—climate change.

The images will reveal the current state of these ecosystems and how local flora and fauna respond to these changes.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on April 24 at 6:00 PM at the "Dialogues" gallery on Soborna, 2.

Evgeny Diky, the director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, will participate in the opening.

The venue is located in a basement, ensuring protection.

The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
