Fraudster Facing Trial for Deceiving Local Residents
Investigators have completed the preliminary investigation against a woman who caused damages exceeding 48 thousand hryvnias to victims. The indictment has been forwarded to court. The perpetrator faces imprisonment.
The criminal operated in a market within the Peresyp district. Posing as a technician specializing in gadget and appliance repairs, she offered her services to unsuspecting individuals. Five trusting citizens handed over their phones and tablets for protective glass installation, as well as a robot vacuum needing charger repairs. After promising to return the devices quickly, the "technician" took them and vanished.
In this manner, she inflicted losses totaling more than 48 thousand hryvnias.
When the victims did not receive their belongings, they reported the incident to the police. Through swift measures, officers from Police Station No. 2 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 identified and located the offender, a 36-year-old local resident. She managed to sell the vacuum and two phones, but law enforcement tracked down all devices and returned them to their rightful owners.
Investigators gathered sufficient evidence and charged the suspect under parts 1 and 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for acquiring someone else's property through deception, namely fraud, committed repeatedly. The indictment has been submitted to the court. The offender faces up to three years in prison.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa.
