Tragedy Strikes: Grandmother Accidentally Injures Granddaughter
In a small village in Odessa, a 50-year-old woman accidentally shot her 5-year-old granddaughter while attempting to hide a pneumatic rifle. The incident occurred when she pulled the trigger.
On April 19, medical staff informed the police that the girl had been hospitalized with a jaw injury. Investigating officers have determined that the woman decided to hide her son's pneumatic rifle from the children and accidentally shot her granddaughter, who was nearby.
The investigators have recorded the child's injury in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations, examining the case under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with negligent infliction of serious bodily harm. The maximum penalty for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.
"A number of forensic examinations are being conducted as part of the investigation, and the full circumstances of the incident are being established" - police reported.
