Criminal Sentenced to 7 Years for Phone Theft
A repeat offender has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing a mobile phone from an elderly man. The incident occurred in February of this year during lunchtime in the Primorsky district of Odesa.
The criminal approached the elderly man, who had come from Berezivka, pretending to be helpful. When the man trusted him, the offender suddenly snatched the phone from his pocket.
Police quickly located the thief in a nearby neighborhood and recovered the stolen mobile phone, returning it to its owner.
At the time of the robbery, the 39-year-old man already had multiple convictions for property crimes and drug offenses. The court placed him in custody but he did not take advantage of the bail option.
After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators brought charges under part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to robbery committed during martial law. The case was forwarded to court after the pre-trial investigation was completed under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office.
The court reviewed the evidence and found the defendant guilty of robbery, sentencing him to seven years of imprisonment.
