Young Offender Arrested for Drug Distribution
A 20-year-old man has been charged and preventive measures have been taken. He faces imprisonment.
Patrol officers stopped a local resident in the afternoon on the Health Trail, where he was leaving «drops» with prohibited substances. The investigative team from the police department No. 2 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 seized a total of 22 zip packets containing psychotropic substances, which were subsequently confirmed by express tests and sent for examination.
Investigators detained the offender in a procedural manner, and during the pre-trial investigation established that the suspect was communicating with an unknown supplier via the internet, receiving illegal goods by parcel, packaging it at home and distributing it through «drops». He recorded these on his mobile phone, which has also been seized, and sent addresses and photos to buyers.
As stated by Marina Yermolenko, an investigator from the territorial police unit, sufficient evidence has led to the suspect being charged under parts 1 and 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for the illegal acquisition, storage for the purpose of sale, as well as the illegal sale of psychotropic substances, including repeat offenses. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to post bail set at 60,565 UAH. According to current legislation, the offender faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with asset confiscation.
During the pre-trial investigation, police will identify individuals involved in drug trafficking. The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa.
